Derek Lobo, 31, of Brockton, was arrested on Thursday, Sept. 13, Massachusetts State Police said.
He is charged with:
- Assault and battery on a police officer
- Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
- Trafficking in Fentanyl, more than 10 grams
- Negligent operation of a motor vehicle
- Failure to stop for police
- Unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle
- Number plate violation
- No inspection sticker
- Speeding
- Window tint violation
- Not in possession of a license
Troopers pulled over Lobo's Mercedes around 6 p.m. Wednesday on Montpellier Street in Brockton, authorities said. It's unclear the purpose of the stop.
It began as a routine stop but quickly turned violent as Lobo stomped on the gas as an officer reached inside his car, the video shows.
The car dragged the trooper for several feet before he fell away and skidded along the pavement. The officer jumped up immediately and sprinted to his cruiser to take up the chase, but Lobo escaped capture that day.
State troopers and apprehension teams searched for Lobo through the night before finding him at a home in Brockton Thursday afternoon, police said.
Authorities did not say if the officer who was dragged was injured.
